CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY:
Supposedly increases the output of respiratory tract fluid by reducing adhesiveness and surface tension; promotes ciliary action and facilitates removal of viscous mucus; lack of convincing studies to document efficacy
INDICATIONS AND USES:
Dry, non-productive cough; sinusitis
PRECAUTIONS:
Recurrent cough, cough associated with fever, rash, persistent headache, excessive secretions
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION:
Pregnancy type C; excretion into breast milk unknown
SIDE EFFECTS:
Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, rash
DOSE:
Adults: 2-4 tsf 2 to 3 times daily
Children: 2-6 years, 1-2 tsp 2-3 times daily; 6-12 years 2tsf 2-3 times daily; over 12 years adult dose.
